THE BIG IDEA

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Each term, Descendants Friday online club focuses on the influential impacts of African and Caribbean culture. Previous topics have included, Windrush, Black Royalty: Coronations, Ceremonies and Celebrations, Black inventors and more. We aim for every attendee to come away with a heightened realisation that they can make a difference in the world around them, no matter how big or small. This term, Descendants is exploring entrepreneurship through The Big Idea project.

This project is running every Friday during term time and is held virtually via zoom. The young people we work with have been given £5 each to develop a micro business, working through a business plan and documenting their progress. Each session we invite entrepreneurs from various industries to talk with the children and inspire them. At the end of the project the children will be invited to promote their micro businesses at Descendants 30th Anniversary event on 25th May 2024, having a stall dedicated to sell and market what they have come up with.
